Yeongsik Yoo

Yeongsik Yoo is a professor of Latin American commerce studies at the College of Liberal Arts at Dankook University in South Korea. Dr. Yoo has held many leadership roles, serving as the program director of Foreign Language in the College of Liberal Arts, as well as the director of the Institute of Asian and American Studies.
Dr. Yoo currently holds the position of vice president for several prominent academic and professional organizations in South Korea, including the Korea Association for International Commerce and Information, the Korea Trade Research Association, and the Korea Research Society for Customs.
After joining the South Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1997, he served as a deputy director in the Central America and Caribbean Division and worked as a diplomat in Spanish-speaking countries such as Panama, Spain, and Ecuador.
Since leaving government service in 2013, Dr. Yoo has remained active in academic and civil organizations. He has served as a senior director of the Korean Council on Latin America and the Caribbean, vice president of the Korea Trade Research Association, and executive director of the Korea Research Society for Customs.
Dr. Yoo earned a B.A. from Dankook University and subsequently obtained a master's degree and a Ph. D. in linguistics from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México.
