Sukchan Choi

Secretary-general

Suk-chan Choi is a former director of the Ministry of Unification, which he joined in 1997. Until his retirement from the ministry in 2022, Mr. Choi had served in many different posts in the ministry’s various branches, including the Institute for Unification Education, the Inter-Korean Dialogue Office, the Exchange and Cooperation Bureau, and the Office of Unification Policy, where he played an important role in managing and improving inter-Korean relations for peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula.


In particular, from 2004 to 2007 while at the Inter-Korean Dialogue Office, he was in charge of supporting numerous large and small bilateral talks, including the Inter-Korean Summit 2007 as well as several ministerial- and vice ministerial-level talks in various areas.

 

Mr. Choi is currently a member of the presidential Advisory Council for Democracy, Peace, and Reunification and a member of the steering committee of the Korean Association for National Unification.

 

He graduated from Sungkyunkwan University, completed his master's degree at Yonsei University, and his doctorate program at Soongsil University.
